Your inverter quotation says “rapid shutdown ready,” while the module electronics and shutdown switch are listed separately. Before ordering, establish which exact combination delivers the required shutdown function, who commissions it and what evidence the owner receives.

Quick answer: Buy solar rapid shutdown as a documented system combination. Identify the controlled PV circuits, receiving devices, every relevant signal source and the specified initiation method. Require model-specific compatibility evidence and a professional commissioning record. A switch label, monitoring dashboard or optimizer feature list alone does not establish the completed system’s shutdown response.

Define the shutdown function before ordering a switch

Rapid shutdown concerns the response of defined PV circuits in a specified system. The purchase requirement should identify that controlled boundary and the expected response from the project design. Leave the applicable acceptance criteria to the responsible project professional and the selected manufacturers’ documents.

A DC breaker, an isolation switch and a rapid shutdown initiator have different specification questions. A breaker’s protection rating does not document the response of module-level receiving devices. An isolation switch may have a role in the selected design, but its product category alone does not establish a complete rapid shutdown function.

Write the required function and circuit boundary on the enquiry before choosing the button or switch. Ask who approves its role in the proposed combination. Keep electrical isolation and permission to service equipment within the project’s documented procedures; a shutdown claim does not guarantee that every conductor is without voltage.

If the system architecture is still undecided, use the on-grid, off-grid and hybrid system comparison to settle that broader scope. Its grid and battery choices do not determine which rapid shutdown combination the project needs.

Identify the receiving devices and every signal source

Ask for a functional diagram naming the receiving devices and the equipment that controls their operating state. In some systems, a separate transmitter provides the relevant signal; another design may include a transmitter inside the inverter. Identify the actual models and paths rather than assuming that an inverter’s feature label includes all necessary equipment.

A compact closed module-level receiving-device sample and a separate control-equipment housing are laid out to identify the supplied equipment and signal-source scope.

APsmart’s RSD-S-PLC and Transmitter-PLC product description presents the transmitter as part of a rapid shutdown solution paired with the module-level unit. That is evidence for a particular product pairing, not permission to combine arbitrary receivers and transmitters from different suppliers.

Conceptual rapid shutdown procurement boundaries A conceptual receiving-device system has a PV power path through the specified receiving device toward the inverter. A separate control relationship joins the initiation method, relevant signal sources and that device. The drawing specifies no wiring, voltage, device count or approved combination. Functions may be integrated in one product. Concept only · not a wiring or test procedure
A functional example for a receiving-device system. Solid lines show a power relationship; dashed lines show control relationships. The exact design can integrate or arrange these functions differently.

Record whether the supplied solution uses Power Line Communication (PLC), wireless communication or another manufacturer-specified method. PLC carries communications over the relevant power conductors. The protocol name is only one field in the specification; it does not approve the complete combination.

Also identify separate monitoring equipment. The equipment used to report production may differ from the equipment maintaining the shutdown-related signal. The supplier’s scope diagram should distinguish these roles and show any functions integrated into the inverter.

Match the exact generation and documented combination

Keep receiver, transmitter and inverter part numbers together on the approval sheet. Include the relevant hardware generation, document revision and destination market. Product names that differ by a suffix or power rating can have different communication requirements.

Four neutral purchasing cards distinguish receiver, signal source, inverter and acceptance records that must be checked for the documented shutdown combination.

Tigo’s model-mixing note, updated September 3, 2026, identifies PLC from a Rapid Shutdown System (RSS) transmitter for legacy TS4-A-F/TS4-A-2F, and wireless communication through Cloud Connect Advanced (CCA) and Tigo Access Point (TAP) for legacy TS4-A-O/TS4-A-S. It excludes mixing those legacy groups within the same rapid shutdown system, then separately explains the multi-factor behavior of newer TS4-A (725W) and TS4-X products. Its point for purchasing is to check the exact generation, rather than extending an old family-level answer to a newer variant.

Ask for evidence that names the proposed combination and its applicable market. Tigo’s US/Canadian-context system listing separately points to its compatibility-tested inverter list. This manufacturer resource distinguishes two evidence routes; it is not an approval of an unspecified project or a statement that the same documents apply worldwide.

The connection format is another separate question. The plug-in versus hard-wired system guide addresses that boundary. Neither a plug nor a hard-wired connection answers which shutdown documentation applies. Have the project reviewer identify the required evidence for the actual location and design.

Agree acceptance for the complete control arrangement

Define acceptance before accepting a package price. The plan should identify the approved combination, the initiation method, the circuits being evaluated and the expected response. A qualified professional should carry out commissioning under the applicable project and manufacturer procedures.

Tigo’s July 16, 2026 field notice addresses TS4-X and TS4-A (725W) used with third-party inverters containing integrated rapid shutdown transmitters. It states that the array may remain energized after CCA is powered down because another compatible transmitter can remain active. This is a specific configuration warning, not a description of every shutdown system.

Use that distinction to ask the designer how the acceptance plan accounts for every relevant signal source in the quoted system. A report that documents only one controller’s status may leave the combination unverified. The owner needs a result tied to the installed arrangement, not a demonstration performed with different hardware.

Request the test-record format, responsible reviewer and handover requirements. Have the professional define the test points, method and applicable criteria. This buying guide supplies no voltage threshold, timing limit or operating sequence, and it cannot establish that equipment is ready for servicing.

Use one procurement checklist for every quotation

Send each seller the same approved project inputs. Require the response to identify the complete supplied scope and the evidence supporting it. An unanswered field should remain pending rather than being filled from a similarly named product.

Rapid shutdown quotation and evidence checklist
Item to confirm Supplier response Evidence to retain
Controlled boundary Specified circuits, module arrangement and required system response. Approved functional diagram and project requirement reference.
Receiving equipment Exact models, variants, quantities and module-input allocation. Revision-linked datasheets and matching item list.
Signals and initiation Every relevant source, integrated function and initiation method. Manufacturer combination evidence and control-scope drawing.
Installed acceptance Commissioning owner, review criteria and record format. Signed result tied to the installed equipment and design revision.
Delivered package Included accessories, services, exclusions and replacement support. Agreed bill of materials, handover list and service terms.

Have the designer check module and receiving-device electrical limits for the proposed allocation and operating conditions. Keep those inputs separate from the system’s shutdown acceptance criteria. A module power label does not settle either review.

Identify which commercial line items belong to equipment supply and which belong to design, installation or commissioning. Request a quote against that reconciled scope. Price comparisons become meaningful after all sellers have answered the same purchase requirement.

Keep substitutions and after-sales support inside the scope

Allow a proposed replacement only through the agreed review process. A different receiver, transmitter, inverter variant or firmware revision can change the documented combination. Ask who checks the change and whether the project’s acceptance record must be updated.

Keep device identifiers and their locations in the handover pack, together with the approved diagram, equipment list and commissioning result. Agree who supplies the records, who retains them and how a later service provider obtains the relevant manufacturer documents.

Clarify fault diagnosis, replacement hardware, access labour, transport and any regional service restrictions. A component warranty may cover a different scope from commissioning or on-site work. Request the actual terms for the quoted package rather than treating a warranty duration as a promise of complete service.

If the shutdown equipment is included in an OEM or packaged solar system, use the solar electric kit parts-list guide to establish the larger delivery boundary. Require the seller to identify which party supports the sold combination, including any bought-in electronics. The parts list and acceptance responsibilities should remain consistent when the package changes.

Send the project requirements before requesting supply

Prepare the destination market, system layout, module and inverter details, required shutdown function and intended purchase boundary. Include existing equipment generations if this is a retrofit. State whether you need components, a documented package or an installed and commissioned system.

For supply enquiries, send LinkSolar the rapid shutdown requirements and project scope for confirmation of the available supply boundary. Stock, an approved model combination, project approval, price, lead time and return terms remain unverified until the relevant response and evidence are received. An initial supply enquiry is not a complete-system approval.

Before releasing the order, close the model, signal-source and acceptance-document gaps with the responsible parties. Keep unresolved items visible in the quotation so the purchase does not silently shift design or commissioning responsibility to the owner.

Tigo and APsmart names belong to their respective owners. Manufacturer examples do not imply affiliation with LinkSolar.
